Wu Dawei, male, Han nationality, is a native of Heilongjiang Province. He was born in 1946 and is a university graduate.
An Asian affairs specialist, Wu began his career as a staff member at the Chinese Embassy in Japan in 1973. His return to China was followed by a five year stint as deputy section chief of the general office of State Council.
Wu returned to Japan in 1985 to serve as a second secretary, and later, ad first secretary at the Chinese Embassy. He rejoined the Asian Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the early 1990s as a counselor and deputy director-general. In 1994, he became a minister-counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan.
An ambassador to Korea for three years, from 1998 to 2001, Wu was made ambassador to Japan in 2001. From 2004-2009 he served as vice-minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
