Chen Ping, male, Han nationality, was born in 1946, graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and received a doctorate in physics from the University of Texas at Austin.
As an active contributor to reform since 1978, Chen was one of the scientists who systematically criticized traditional agriculture policies in China. His articles appeared in leading Chinese papers, including the People's Daily, the World Economic Herald, and the United Daily News. Chen is a professor of economics at Beijing University.
