Biography

Qian Renyuan, male, Han nationality, is a native of Changshu, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from the Chemistry Department of Zhejiang University in 1939.

In the mid 1950s, Qian started research on a series of chemistry issues. His studies led him to analyze the character of polymers, chain structure, and the function of physics and dynamics as well as rheology. As he continued his research, he delved into the relation between high polymers and structural functions and created methods for modifying the distribution of molecular weight to adapt to the requirements of processing function of polypropylene. His work in this field is credited with laying the foundation for the development of the polypropylene fiber industry in China.

Two decades later, in the 1970s, Qian shifted his research to concentrate on organic solid conduction. He conducted experiments on the shift process of active association material, compound and organic solid carriers, new types of organic conductors, and conductive higher polymers. Qian then investigated the condensed state of high polymers.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences elected him as an academician in 1980.
