Zhuang Qiaosheng, male, Han nationality, is a native of Minzhou, Fujian Province. He graduated from the Agriculture School of Jinling University in 1939 and was a researcher at the Crop Breeding and Cultivation Research Institute of the Chinese Agriculture Scientific Institute. He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991.
Zhuang specializes in the breeding of improved varieties of wheat and has improved more than 20 winter wheat varieties; achieving remarkable increase in production. He introduced the concept of hereditary crop breeding to China and advocated compound crossbreeding to aggregate favorable genes.
