Li Yuan, male, Han nationality, is a native of Jiading, Shanghai. He was born in 1947, joined the CPC in 1972, and graduated from university, majoring in economics. Li initially held various posts in the
Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and the Ministry of Petroleum Industry. He has been involved in the political reform committees of the CPC, and in 1998 he was appointed vice-minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources.
